BIG MISTAKE:

Not Getting 100% Reassurance That The Presentation Is Squeeky Clean AND Age Appropriate For Your Students
I've saved this big mistake for the end of the report because I think it is the most important part of everything I have to tell you. Even if what you've already read seems like common sense, I urge you to please pay close attention to this part of the report. Yes- it is that important!
It is so very important that the presenter you are interested in bringing to your school offers a 100% non-offensive and "clean" program from start to finish. In today's world where many "part-timers" think it is cute and even amusing to throw in a few "off color" jokes to try to appeal to the teachers in the audience, you must be careful of any presenter that comes to your school. The person preseting the program is suppose to be a role model but yet many of them do something or say something that spoils the whole presentation and makes you look bad for inviting them to the school.
I have heard of several stories where a certain performer thought it was really cute to bring a girl on stage and use a certain undergarmet during the program to make the kids laugh. Yes- there are presenters out there like this. I even know of one presenter who likes to call the kids "stupid" yet turns around and tells everyone not to call people names. I am not making this stuff up! This confuses the students and makes the entire program useless. Not only is this not age appropriate but it is also very very very unprofessional. I believe that we as presenters are being invited to a school to sit an example and be a positive rold model. We are being judged by everything we say and everything we do. I can guarantee you that presenters who make fun of students and do offensive material will not last in the school assembly business long.
I cannot stress to you enough the importance of making sure that the presenter you want has a truly "clean" program. There cannot be ANYTHING that may offend someone! No-one should ever be made fun of or picked on in anyway whatsoever. You must INSISIT and EMPHASIS to the presenter that you expect their program to be squeeky clean from start to finish. Do not settle for anything less!
It's also important to make sure that the presenter offers different versions of their programs based on the grade level of the students who will attend the assembly. If the program is too "juvenile," the older students may tune the presenter out and start talking and getting bored. On the other hand, you don't want a program to be too "advanced" for the younger grades either. I suggest that you find a presenter who offers three versions of their program: one for younger grades, one for older grades and one that can appeal to the entire school. Trust me, teachers and principals appreciate the differences.
Well, there you have it. If you are a seasoned school assembly coordinator you may have already known some of these important things to watch out for. However, I hope that you were able to find at least one thing that you may have overlooked in the past.
My desire for your school and for all schools is that you are able to find the right presenter that will have a positive impact on your students. I hope that whoever you bring into your school that the students, teachers and principal all get the kind of programs that you all so richly deserve.
If I can ever be of any help to you in anyway whatsoever, please do not hesitate to call me TOLL FREE 1-866-829-2286.
