BIG MISTAKE:

Paying Extra For Everything
Watch out for presenters who start adding on extra charges for coming to your school. Most presenters today charge a reasonable fee for the program itself but then start adding on extra expenses to make more money and drain your budget. They use the price of just the program to often "lure" you in and then start adding on extra for things like: extra for having to sit in traffic, extra for a certain part of town, extra for toll booths, extra for bringing in a sound system, etc. etc. etc. Often times these extra charges can end up costing more than the actual program. To make matters worse, these presenters will often times want a check for the program plus their extra expenses. There is nothing worse than a big bill and a big surprise because their expenses are more than you planned for. I have even heard of presenters who want expect to be picked up and taken to the school, taken out to lunch and wined and dined during their visit. I am not making this stuff up! This is just another expense on your part and something you should not have to pay for.
When looking at presenters, call around and try to go with someone that quotes you a price for EVERYTHING. Make sure that there are no hidden surprises and that the fee they quote you includes their mileage and everything else. Make sure you get an invoice, performance agreement or contract in writing that states the full fee with no surprises.
Bottom line: choose a presenter that will not break the bank by adding on extra charges. Their fee should cover the program, their travel expenses and even a sound system. You should not have to pay for anything extra at all!
Extra tip: many presenters will give you a price break for multiple programs. For example, if you need 2 back to back programs, the presenter should not charge you the same price for each program. They should be willing to give you each additional program at a discounted rate. Also, look for presenters who will not only give you a price break for more than one program but also those who will let you split the cost of multiple programs with other schools in your same area. This will help you to save some big money!
BIG MISTAKE:

Not Getting A Money Back Guarantee
Let's be honest for a minute: anyone can claim that their program is great and everyone will tell you how much the students will enjoy it but can they back their claim up with a money back guarantee? I truly feel that if a school assembly presenter really believes in their program and honestly feels that their program will motivate and inspire students, there should no problem whatsoever with them offering a complete money back guarantee.
I'll let you know right up front how mine works this way you'll know what to look for in others. Mine is VERY simple: IF FOR ANY REASON YOU TRULY FEEL THAT MY PROGRAM WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME FOR THE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS, IF YOU FEEL THAT THE STUDENTS DID NOT HAVE A GREAT TIME AND DID NOT LEAVE MOTIVATED, YOU DO NOT OWE ME A DIME. Not too worry: I have NEVER had a school take me up on this offer- ever. Why do I offer such a strong guarantee you ask? Simple: I know that my programs are everything I say they are and more so I simply do not worry about backing up my claims. The presenter you are considering bringing into your school should be able to offer you the same guarantee. If they can't or won't, I strongly suggest that you look elsewhere.
Bottom line: always make sure that your investment is secure with a money back guarantee. Remember that you are taking a big risk when you bring someone to your school to present a program to your students. Is putting your budget and reputation on the line worth it?
